***UPDATE - PLEASE BE ADVISED DUE TO REASONS OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL THIS FUNERAL HAS BEEN CANCELED ***

WWII vet to be buried with no family, friends.

From Kevin Cahalan
Hunterdon County Bulldogs Member

Tara Hintz, who is in charge of the Lower Valley Union Church cemetery on Rt 513 in Califon has made a request. She is in possession of the cremains of a WWII Veteran, (I don’t know his name at this time) She has made an extensive search for any living relatives and found none. His parents are buried in this cemetery and Tara thought she would just add his cremains to their burial plot.

She asked me if I knew of an honor guard that would come and perform a military service for him. I gave her the number of the NJ National Guard Honor Guard Service that I got from Richard Booth our Hunterdon County VSO. Hopefully they will be there on the 19th of June to perform said service and I think it would be wonderful if as many veterans as possible attended to see this brother veteran off. Start time will depend on the availability of the color guard which we are still waiting to confirm. We are targeting 9am but will send an update with final information once confirmed.

No vet left behind is one of our mottos. I will be notifying all veteran organizations around and asking them to participate. Nothing formal, just wear your caps or your casual uniforms.

Please come out to honor this vet. We owe it to him. I will notify your commanders or posts of the exact time. I hope you can all make it and in doing so make us all proud to be Veterans.

Thank You,
Kevin Cahalan

Please be advised that for reasons beyond our control, the funeral has been canceled. We appreciate all the support that people have shown.

I have learned that his name is Frederick Cox and he was a Navy Veteran. The service will probably be held at 10:00 am. Still not sure about the Honor Guard...Thank you Scott!
